Hi again,

I continue to stay abreast on Schapelle news and monitor the petition, which has been going very slow. I must admit, that seeing only one sign-in is disheartening. Surely, there must be a way to get more people to sign in. On that note, I found out that there is a petition that is already going around, so now my hope is that with two petitions, one directed to the Australian PM and the other to the U.S. State Dept., they can work together to get Schapelle free! I heard from Kay Danes from foreignprisoners.com and she let me know that a link on the Schapelle Corby website will connect users to this blog. That is a HUGE step in the right direction. Also, I was also informed that word of the existence of this blog would be passed along to Mercedes, and hopefully she can relay the info to Schapelle. So in other words, good news travels fast! I am glad individuals are beginning to be a part of the petition, but I just wanted to remind those signing to please leave your name, city in which you live and country. I think that will be an effective and powerful way to deliver the message that the WORLD wants Schapelle to be able to go home.

In other news, Barack Obama is planning on giving his acceptance speech at Invesco Field in August (formerly Mile High Stadium). This will be the first time since JFK delivered his speech at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that a presidential candidate will address a crowd exceeding 50,000 for an acceptance speech! I am so excited about his candidacy. So many positive things can come from an Obama presidency. The United States definitely needs to re-connect with the world, and the things he would bring to the table as president would definitely help achieve that and quite possibly a saner world. Also, I am applying for a position within the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer. The test is coming up in a couple of weeks, so all positive thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Lastly, my fiancee is finally returning home after a long weekend away in Canada. (Hooray!) I wonder what I'll make for dinner? Hmmmmm....

Hi all! At long last, I have established a blog, and I can use this to get a lot of things off my chest. Not only that, but I can just talk about miscellaneous things as well. That being said, a little about me (just in case you're wondering). I am a native of the Bay Area, and I can't imagine living in a better place anywhere else in the world. I have been to Europe, Mexico, Canada and several states in this country. I plan on visiting many other places across the globe, and I am not even going to list them because they are far too many. I am engaged, have two sisters (one is expecting a baby girl later this year), and I am a history instructor at three city colleges. I will speak on these issues and more later.

So, down to business. Recently, I watched an HBO documentary about the "Ganja Queen" Schapelle Corby. Before watching it, I had never heard of her, but I am driven to see justice prevail. For those of you who don't know the story, here are the basic details: On October 8, 2004, Schapelle was traveling to Bali, Indonesia with her family to visit her sister. Upon arrival at the Bali airport, she was arrested for possession of 4.2 kilograms of marijuana in her boogie board bag. She did not have the drugs in her possession at any time, nor did she put it in her bag. The Denpassar district court ignored all evidence pointing to her innocence, and convicted her to 20 years on May 27, 2005. (She could have been sentenced to death, but the prosecutor sought a "lesser" sentence.) I am calling for the immediate pardon and release of Schapelle Corby. I am hoping that this blog, along with all the other efforts to get her free works. I want to use this blog as an international petition that I would present to the government of Bali through the U.S. State Department in the hopes that Schapelle is free. Remember, bad things happen when good people stand by and do nothing. Please sign the petition!
